Tulsa Fertility Center
During in vitro fertilization eggs and sperm are collected from a couple and
placed in a laboratory dish where the eggs are fertilized. Several days later,
the fertilized eggs are placed into the woman's uterus where implantation of the
embryo occurs.
Benefits include the ability to know if fertilization of an egg has successfully
and the ability to circumvent some fallopian tube problems. IVF procedures are
substantially more successful for women under 40 years of age.
During their first visit to the Center, the male partner will undergo a complete
physical. The physician will obtain a medical and surgical history and perform a
thorough physical examination. In order for conception to occur, the male must
produce enough sperm, have a healthy reproductive tract, and the correct hormone
levels. A variety of tests will be run to determine which factors may be
impacting upon the couple's ability to achieve a pregnancy.
The female evaluation will include a number of diagnostic tests as well as a
complete physical evaluation. Hormone imbalances, irregular ovulation, sperm
antibodies, scarring, or endometriosis are only a few of the problems women may
experience.
Judith Blackwell, M.D., joined the Tulsa Center for Fertility and Women’s Health
in 1989. Her practice includes all areas of infertility including in vitro
fertilization, consultative gynecology and reproductive endocrinology. She is an
experienced laparoscopic surgeon in both the areas of infertility and
gynecology. Her interests in endocrinology include problems with ovulation
including polycystic ovary syndrome, problems with bone development and
osteoporosis and menopause.
Dr. Blackwell is fellowship trained and board certified in the area of
Endocrinology. Her fellowship and residency experience included training in
in-vitro fertilization, laser and laparoscopic surgery. She also completed
residencies in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Internal Medicine and is board
certified in those areas as well. She is certified by the Accreditation Council
for Gynecologic Endoscopy.

South Tulsa Associates for Reproductive Treatment
In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is currently the most common Assisted Reproductive
Technology (ART) procedure used to overcome a variety of fertility difficulties.
IVF is the preferred method for tubal problems and sperm deficiencies.
In the IVF process, medications are often used to help stimulate the development
and release of a woman's eggs. In general, the eggs and sperm are collected and
placed together in a laboratory dish to fertilize. Once the eggs have
successfully fertilized, the now embryos are transferred into the woman's
uterus. A successful IVF treatment occurs when one of the fertilized eggs
implants and develop just as in unassisted conception. A normal pregnancy should
now occur.
