Wholistic Health for Women
Wholistic Medicine can be used to increase fertility, along with Traditional
Chinese Medicine, Chinese Herbology, Nutrition and bio-chemistry and various
adjunct therapies. Infertility has been treated with Traditional Chinese
Medicine (TCM) for thousands of years with great achievement. Recent studies
have shown significant data that Acupuncture can increase conception rates
successfully.
Infertility has many causes , Traditional Chinese Medicine can help balance the
body’s function so that pregnancy is possible. While treatment for fertility may
take long, the strategy of Traditional Chinese Medicine is always to strengthen
the body and correct imbalances in its functioning, therefore creating overall
health in the body.
Treatments for Infertility are highly individualized and patients are scheduled
once or twice a week for a duration of at least (3) three weeks up to an average
of (22) twenty
two weeks, depending on individual case. In some cases where conventional
treatments such as In Vitro Fertilization and IntraUterine Inseminations are
being incorporated, the treatment plan synchronized to the other treatments
involved.
TCM is used with patients undergoing IVF for various reasons. The treatment
sessions can help to increase the success rate of your IVF cycle due to the fact
that it helps increase the blood flow to the uterus, helps balance the hormone
levels, helps increase Qi (vital energy) to the organ systems and enhance the
overall physiological functioning of the body.

In Vitro Fertilization is the process by which eggs (oocytes) are retrieved from
the ovary, fertilized by the sperm in the laboratory, and cultured into early
embryos. The
embryos are then transferred into the uterus. Since multiple oocytes are desired
in order to enhance the likelihood of pregnancy, stimulation with injectable
gonadotropins are usually required.
Frequent monitoring is necessary with sonograms and blood tests. When these
diagnostic methods indicated that the time is appropriate, an hCG injection is
taken to mature the eggs. The eggs are retrieved from the ovary just before they
are ready to be ovulated. This is usually about 36 hours after the hCG
injection.
For IVF, the eggs are usually retrieved by ultrasound guided needle aspiration
through the vagina. Transvaginal oocyte aspiration is done using intravenous
anesthesia, which is administered by an anesthesiologist. This out-patient
procedure is preformed at The Reproductive Medicine Group’s IVF and Surgery
Center.
After aspiration, the embryologist will determine the number of eggs obtained
and classify them as mature, immature, post mature or degenerative. Immediately
following the egg aspiration, your spouse will meet with the IVF Andrologist to
provide a semen specimen. The sperm is then processed in the IVF laboratory. The
sperm and eggs are placed in a dish and fertilization takes place (in vitro)
outside the patient’s body in the laboratory. The fertilization process takes
approximately 10-20 hours. Embryos are then cultured for 3-5 days before being
replaced back in the uterus by a simple technique much like intrauterine
insemination.
Embryo transfer occurs on day 3 or 5 at The Reproductive Medicine Group’s IVF
and Surgery Center. Embryos are carefully placed into a special catheter and
inserted into the uterine cavity. Generally, 2-3 embryos are transferred back
into the uterus depending on the patient’s age, embryo quality and physician
recommendation.

In Office In Vitro Fertilization Tampa
Traditional in-vitro fertilization (IVF) programs utilize a hospital setting for
egg stimulation and collection as well as embryo transfer. The use of operating
rooms, recovery rooms, general or regional anesthesia, etc. substantially
increase the cost of the basic procedure and possibly the risks and have no
benefit relative to the results. Overall success rates for in-vitro
fertilization done in the office or the hospital have been averaging nationally
about 30% since 1994. For women under 37, success rates here are above 50%.
You will be placed on a certain protocol of medication that is appropriate for
your age and cycle history, which could include Clomid, Letorzole,
gonadotrophins (Bravelle,
Repronex, etc.) and Lupron or Antagon. Typically, these medicines are injections
to stimulate egg production and yet prevent ovulation. You will be monitored by
ultrasound measurements of your follicles (cysts that contain the eggs) and
blood estradiol levels. Typically, birth control pills or Lupron are begun on
the cycle prior to stimulation. There will be a pre-scan ultrasound on cycle day
2 or 3 and you may have a FSH/E2 blood test done. If all looks well, we will
begin your stimulation on day 3.
Since stimulation protocols are individualized personally, we can only give you
a general idea here of what to expect. Normally, injectable medications called
gonadotrophins are given for anywhere from 3-30 days. They are designed to
enhance the growth and maturation of your eggs. They are usually given as
subcutaneous injections (like an allergy or insulin shot).
There are human-based hormones that directly stimulate the ovaries. These
injections may be given once or twice daily until eggs are mature. Ultrasound
and blood monitoring will generally begin on day 6 or 7 with ultrasounds
continuing on a daily or every other day basis until the eggs are ready (usually
after 7-10 days of medication). Other injections with drugs like Lupron or
Antagon will be required to prevent spontaneous, unplanned ovulation.
